The Botany View Hotel is just to the southwest of Sydney in Newtown, New South Wales. You can find this classic spot just to the north of Sydney Park on the corner of King Street and Darley Street. The Botany likes to say that it's an old dog with new tricks. This hotel has been here a while and you can tell from the outside. The interior, however, has been renovated to be more modern and comfortable. It's an easy spot to spend an afternoon watching the game, enjoying a cold beer and making new friends with the locals. And the locals descend upon this place for the $10 lunch specials. From noon to 3 PM, Monday through Friday, you feast on a cheeseburger, bangers and mash, a soup and sandwich combo, crispy skinned barramundi or a salad. The dining room is casual but you can notice that it's been renovated. There are exposed beams in the ceilings and the walls are covered in chalkboards that display the specials of the day. But it is still a place where you can come as you are with the entire family. There's no need to dress too fancy. The upstairs bar has a good view of the busy corner below. It's a good perch for people watching in this hip Sydney suburb. And there's a beer garden out back where you can enjoy a drink when the weather is nice. Overall, this is a comfortable and classic spot that is always solid.
