The Stonewall Hotel's name is an ode to the Stonewall riots of New York City back in 1969. Responding to an unlawful raid of the Stonewall Hotel in Greenwich Village, New York, the LGBTQ community took to the streets in protest. It was a statement and a significant turning point in the fight for equal rights. The Stonewall Hotel, right in the heart of Sydney, is a gay bar full of male dancers and drag shows that celebrate this heritage. It is an open, inviting place where you can find raging dance parties that last deep into the night. And it is perhaps the most popular gay bar on Oxford Street in Sydney's most famous gay-bourhood so expect big crowds on the weekends. The big draw is the boy dancers and the drag shows. It's the kind of place that draws an eclectic crowd, but you'll mostly run into mid-20's to mid-30's men. The whole place is decorated rather funky and you'll love their various chandeliers. The place serves food on a limited basis, like before and after trivia on Monday nights. And each night of the week carries a theme like 90's music Tuesdays. If you're lucky, you'll go on a night when all three floors are open for dancing, drinking and celebrating the Stonewall Hotel.
